Administrative/Professional Evaluation Guidelines

University policy (Policy 3.4.9) requires that all continuing Administrative/Professional personnel be evaluated at least once each year. Supervising units are encouraged to develop their own instrument using the suggested guidelines below. This allows for each evaluation to be designed and focused on a particular position. In addition to the written evaluation, a Performance evaluation summary form (PERS 924) also needs to be completed and attached to the front of the written evaluation for every continuing Administrative/Professional in a unit.

Suggested Guidelines for Appraisal:

  1. Identify the main functions of the position.
  2. Appraise how well the incumbent met the objectives established for the evaluation period in terms of knowledge and understanding, leadership, interaction/communication, decision making, initiative, efficiency, professional growth and/or scholarly productivity, and service to the University and/or community.
  3. Set goals and objectives for the next evaluation period.

Procedure:

  1. Complete an evaluation instrument,
  2. Complete the performance evaluation summary form (PERS 924) and attach it to the front of the written evaluation,
  3. Discuss the evaluation with the employee,
  4. Allow the employee an opportunity to respond to the evaluation,
  5. Acquire signatures from employee and supervisor,
  6. Send (PERS 924) and evaluation to the Office of Human Resources (Mail Code 1300)

The original copy of each completed instrument is to be returned to the Office of Human Resources (Mail Code 1300 or 101 Nelson Smith Building) no later than April 30, of the current fiscal year.

A number of Administrative/Professional employees also hold academic rank. University policy requires that their A/P positions be evaluated even though they may be subject to an academic evaluation. For Administrative/Professional employees who work for two departments, evaluations are needed from each department.
