Administrative/Professional (A/P) refers to any academic appointment for the purpose of support for the area of instruction, organized research or public service. Specific support areas are instructional support, academic support, institutional support and student services activities. A/P appointments may or may not follow the academic calendar.
A/P appointments are primarily, but not necessarily, in non-academic departments. The A/P appointment is not for the purpose of teaching; however, individuals so appointed may also teach a class.
A/P appointments are considered to be one of three appointment types:
An individual appointed to an A/P position may or may not carry academic rank, and, therefore, be tenure eligible depending upon individual qualifications and position parameters. If the position incumbent does not carry academic rank, he/she is considered “unranked” in the area of assignment.
Externally-funded A/P are employed on non-continuing contracts. Any vacation and sick leave earned must be used prior to the final date of the employment period stated.
Each A/P appointment must carry an administrative title reflective of the position. Click the appropriate link below to view job title and position description information for the type of A/P position you are filling.
