Recruiting & Hiring Administrative Professionals

Waiver Process

Typically, AP positions are advertised and searched using the recruitment website, which is maintained by Human Resources. There are, however, some exceptions to this recruitment requirement that may be granted on a case-by-case basis. In these situations, a waiver will be required from the Equal Opportunity, Ethics, and Access (EOEA) office.

Search Committee

Search committees play a critical advisory role in the identification, recruitment, and screening of candidates. Committees are appointed in accordance with departmental or unit procedures, but all have the common goal of filling open positions with individuals who will advance the University's mission.

Determination of the members of a search committee should be made early in the recruitment process, ideally at the time the job description is being reviewed. Human Resources is available to conduct search committee training with newly formed committees.

Posting the Position

Positions are posted through a recruitment website, which is maintained by Human Resources. If you have not yet created a username or password for the recruitment website, please contact HR.

There are two major steps that are needed, in order to post the position:

  • Presidential Approval - Those positions that are 100% grant-funded do not require Presidential approval. However, if any portion of the position is funded by a non-grant source, then Presidential approval is required.
  • Job Description – All job descriptions are managed through the recruitment system. Therefore, an updated job description is needed before the position can be posted. If you require assistance with submitting a job description through the recruitment system, please contact HR.

During your search, you may find that a recruitment letter is helpful in introducing your candidates to the ISU and Bloomington/Normal communities.

Background Checks

A security sensitive position is one that requires a comprehensive criminal background investigation or fingerprint check.

Offering the Position

Once the final candidate has been selected, then the offer can be extended. Please consult with the Employment Unit before extending an offer.
