The Ultimate Decision Leave is the final step of the VIP program. At this step of the process the employee is given a 1 day paid leave of absence to consider whether or not he/she is willing and committed to working toward the goals of the University. The employee should be instructed to use this time to reflect on whether this job is right for him/her and to decide whether he/she can make changes to correct the problem and perform at an acceptable level in all aspects of the job. Upon his/her return the employee will be expected to inform Human Resources and their supervisor of his/her decision.
It is very important that, during the discussion with the employee, the supervisor emphasize that this is the final step of the process and that any further infractions of any kind may result in termination.
Before conduction the meeting the manager should complete the Formal Meeting Checklist. At the end of the meeting the employee is told he/she will be issued a Notification of Ultimate Decision Leave Sample Letter, at this time the manager should also complete the Post Meeting Worksheet. Upon returning from an Ultimate Decision Leave a Return From Ultimate Decision Leave Sample Letter will need to be completed.
The decision to place an employee on an Ultimate Decision Leave is solely the responsibility of the Office of Human Resources on the basis of recommendations from supervisors.
