Office of Human Resources: Illinois State University

Begin the Recruitment Process

Recruitment Committees play a critical advisory role in the identification, recruitment, and screening of candidates. Committees are appointed in accordance with departmental or unit procedures, but all have the common goal of filling open positions with individuals who will advance the University’s mission.

Legal Issues

All activities of the Recruitment Committee must follow the guidelines of the Office of the President as articulated through the support and guidance offered by the Office of Human Resources (HR) and the Office for Diversity and Affirmative Action (ODAA). All Recruitment Committee members should attend Search Committee Training offered regularly by Human Resources. Clerical staff assisting the Recruitment Committee members and preparing paperwork should also attend.

Conduct of the Committee

The committee chairperson is responsible for reviewing with the committee the following:

  • The preeminent need for confidentiality for all candidates, including those internal to Illinois State;
  • The necessity of careful, secure record keeping and filing; and
  • Avoidance of deliberations concerning gender, sexual orientation, disability concerns, race, ethnicity, religion, age, or family status, or other factors precluded by law, regulations and/or University Policies.

Confidentiality

From the time applications are first received until approval is granted and invitations accepted for on-campus interviews, the names of applicants are confidential and should only be available to Recruitment Committee members and the administrative appointing authority. Once candidates accept invitations for on-campus interviews, their curricula vitae may be made available to others in the department or unit.
