Civil Service - Creating a New Position
To create a new Civil Service Position, work with your dean, director, or staff administrator to gain approval and funding for the position. If you need a new position number, contact the Budget Office at 438-2143.
- Logon to www.jobs.ilstu.edu/hr.
- If you do not have a User Account, please create an account requesting to become a Hiring Manager and/or a Department Head and submit to HR for approval. Upon approval of your user account, continue with step 2.
- A Hiring Manager's User Guide is available on the home page for more detailed information.
- Once in the Online Recruiting System, under Job Descriptions, choose “Begin New Action”, then “Create New Position”.
- Input the appropriate information for the job description.
- If you have a job description saved in Microsoft Word, you may copy and paste information into the appropriate fields.
- Review the position description guidelines closely, as they help insure compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
- Provide the average percentage of time allocated to each of the duties that make up the position.
- Indicate that you desire to post the vacancy. Upon approval and classification of the job description, the recruitment process can begin.
