The State Universities Civil Service System establishes probationary periods for each Civil Service classification. They range from six to twelve months with most positions serving a six month probationary period. Considered part of the examination process, the probationary period is to be used for close observation and evaluation of the employee’s work and to determine whether the employee demonstrates the ability and qualifications necessary to provide satisfactory work performance.
Employees should be formally evaluated on a standard evaluation form after three and five months in a six-month probationary period and at six and nine months in a twelve-month probationary period.
