Emeriti Faculty

Emeriti faculty are retired tenured/tenure-track faculty with rank who return to to instruct or supervise students. These appointments are placed in the non-tenure track Emeriti Faculty (Non Union) job classification.

In accordance with University policy 3.2.10, emeriti faculty shall be accorded the privilege of retaining their professorial title after retirement with the added designation of the word "emeritus" or "emerita." Emeriti faculty who conduct research on an externally-funded grant/project will be assigned the title "Research Last Title With Rank" on their employment contract.

Although emeriti faculty are not part of the collective bargaining agreement between Illinois State University and the Non-Tenure Track Faculty Association/IEA-NEA, their monthly salary must still meet the minimum NTT salary requirements. An emeriti faculty member may request a salary less than what s/he is offered in order to comply with a SURS earnings limitation.

Unique or Short Term Appointments

If an appointment is very unique or short term in nature, a Request for Waiver of Affirmative Action Search procedures may be requested from the Affirmative Action Office, and, if granted, filed with the appointment papers instead of the Search Form.
