Non-Tenure Track Hiring

Full and part time appointments for non-tenure track faculty shall be for a specific purpose and for a specified period of time appropriate to that purpose. Notice of a decision to not reappoint is unnecessary since contracts for non-tenure track faculty are for a stated period of time not to exceed twelve months. None of the titles have rank assigned. No time served in any of the non-tenure track titles counts toward fulfillment of a probationary period leading to tenure.

All negotiated non-tenure track faculty appointments must be assigned in accordance with the language in the collective bargaining agreement between Illinois State University and the Non-Tenure Track Faculty Association/IEA-NEA.

For definitions of Non tenure-Track Faculty Classifications please refer to Illinois State University Policies.

Unique or Short Term Appointments

If an appointment is very unique or short term in nature, a Request for Waiver of Affirmative Action Search procedures may be requested from the Affirmative Action Office, and, if granted, filed with the appointment papers instead of the Search Form.
