Visiting Faculty

The visiting faculty titles are intended for employees who hold rank and are employed at another university. An offer letter extending an invitation is issued by the hiring department/school.  Visiting faculty are invited to Illinois State University to work on a non-continuing basis (up to two years) to provide specialized research expertise and/or to teach a unique course.

The job classes for visiting faculty at Illinois State University are:

  • Visiting Professor
  • Visiting Associate Professor
  • Visiting Assistant Professor

The Offer Letter

The offer letter is a critical part in the hiring of a new tenure track faculty.

As part of the hiring procedure it is important for a copy of this letter to be sent to HR as early in the hiring process as possible for clarification of position, salary, and possible contract contingencies.

International Candidates

When offering a tenure or tenure-track position to an international candidate, managers should work with the Office of International Studies to confirm eligibility, and should employability be confirmed to to prepare the Form I-9
