Illinois State University expects regular attendance from all employees. However, to become refreshed from work and to deal with illness or injury, the University offers excellent vacation and sick leave programs. Vacation should be scheduled in advance and is pre-approved based on the operating needs of the unit. Accrued sick leave benefits are to be used for personal illness or injury, or to care for sick children or other immediate family members when the presence of the employee is required. When possible, the use of sick leave should also be scheduled in advance (appointments, elective surgery, etc.).
