SURS Disability

Eligibility

You may be eligible to receive a SURS disability benefit after you have exhausted all of your payable benefits through Illinois State University.

To be eligible for the benefit you will have to be medically approved by SURS and meeting the following qualifications:

  • Have two years of service credit with SURS
    • There is no minimum service credit required for disability benefits if you become disabled due to an accident.
  • Be unable to perform your job duties due to an illness
  • Be disabled for longer than 60 days (or for as long as it takes for payable benefits to be exhausted, whichever is greater)

 

Applying for SURS Disability

To apply for SURS disability, you must first complete the FMLA application process and exhaust all of your payable benefits. For more information, please review the FMLA/Medical Leave section of the website or contact your Benefits Counselor in the Office of Human Resources at (309) 438-8311.
